Death of Mrs. Askland
The death of Mrs. Bertha Christine Askland occurred at the family home east of Sheldahl Thursday evening after a protracted illness extending over five or six weeks. Deceased was a native of Norway and imigrated to this country in 1866 at the age of 35 years. In 1867 she was married to Colben Askland at Leland, Illinois, and two years later they removed to Iowa and bought the farm east of Sheldahl which has since been their home. Mrs. Askland is survived by her husband and four children who were all present at the last sad rites Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. Holman, pastor of the Bethlehem Lutheran church of which deceased was a charter member. Deceased was an earnest and faithful christian that took much active interest in the work of the church. She was especially known as a friend to the unfortunate, the poor and the needy, and one of her last acts was to donate to the different charitable institutions of her church.
