OBITUARY
Grandma Scott
There died at Boone last Friday evening Mrs. Melissa J. Scott familiarly known in that city and county as "Grandma Scott." She had reached the unusual age of ninety-two and until the past two weeks had been in fairly good health. She was woman of force and worth, came to the locality from which she passed away a half century ago, was a native of Indiana, bore the maiden name of Boone and traced her ancestral line directly back to the famous Daniel Boone of Kentucky from whom our neighbor county on the west takes its name. Some ten years ago Mrs. Scott donated the bulk of her estate, at that time, three thousand dollars, for the benefit of the Universalist church of Boone, of which church she had been for many years and exemplary member and continued to be till her death. The condition of the donation was that she was to receive annually from the church a stipulated sum for her support. The church met the condition faithfully and freely, and is now in full possession of the generous gift.
