OBITUARY
John Barr Dies in Colorado
A Longmont, Colorado, paper contains notice of the death of John Barr, the event having occurred at his home in Niwot, Colorado, May 27, 1901 [sic], as the result of pneumonia. His funeral was held on Sunday the 29th, and interment was in the Niwot cemetery. His age was 76 years.
Mr. Barr became a resident of Nevada in the early sixties. He was a Pennsylvanian, had married in Pennsylvania int toe Kinsell family and in company with the Kinsells immigrated to Story county, they settling at Cambridge. He was cabinet maker and carpenter, and plied either trade as there was call for it in the new west. In partnership with Mr. Keltz he had a furniture store where the Dr. Smith house now stands business being then around the common south of slough and moved to building standing where the Rose Murphy store is located, when business had moved over. In the carpentry line it is chronicled that Barr and Keltz, rebuilt the court house after the fire of January 1, 1864; and constructed the first frame school house a little later. In 1871 or 72 Mr. Barr went to Colorado and made investments and a year or two afterward Mrs. Barr and their on and daughter joined him there. A few years ago they removed to Niwot in Boulder county. Their last visit in Nevada was in 1891. The Barrs were esteemed residents and in the loss which death has brought to Mrs. Barr she will have the warm sympathy of many old friends in Story county.
