Margaret Louise (Hiatt) Routh was born January 31, 1915 to Sherman and Jessie (Harrison) Hiatt in Dallas County, Iowa. She married Bliss Routh on May 28, 1942 in Bethany, Mo. They lived in Des Moines until moving to Ames in 1953. Margaret was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she was a long time member of the Methodist Quilters, forming many friendships. Her family cherishes the many quilts she lovingly made and passed on to each.
Her family was Margaret's greatest joy and her strong faith upheld her throughout her long life.
Margaret passed away January 22, 2017 of natural causes, nine days before her 102nd birthday.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Sandy (Larry) Boeshart of Kansas City, Mo. and Deborah (Lane) Hunter of Aurora, Ill.; her grandchildren, Todd (Colette) Mithelman, Stacey (Nedd) Brown, Jason (Amanda) Boeshart, Jill (Matt) Arunski, Matt (Robyn) Boeshart, Lindsay (Eric) Sommers; two step-grandchildren, Jason Hunter and Michelle Byrd; and 15 great-grandchildren. Margaret is also survived by her sister, Jo Purvis; her sisters-in-law, Pat Hiatt and Martha Miller; numerous nieces and nephews; and Suzanne Pearson, who loved and cared for her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bliss; her daughter, Pam Mithelman; and her brothers, Jerry Hiatt, Warren Hiatt and Art Hiatt.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to First United Methodist Church, 516 Kellogg Ave., Ames, IA 50010 or a charity of your choice.
