Harold Clarence Sorenson was born May 20, 1923 to Chris and Clara (Reiskie) Sorenson in Radcliffe, Iowa. Harold graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1941. He attended Texas A&M while serving in the U.S. Army and then served in Europe during WWII in the 100th Infantry Division. Harold was awarded the Bronze Star, and stood guard at the funeral of General George S. Patton, Jr. After the war, Harold was a MP in Germany until his honorable discharge.

Harold and Alice Gray were married July 15, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He joined the Ames Fire Department in 1954 and retired in 1978. He also worked in construction for 50 years. Harold was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, Ames American Legion Post #37, and the 100th Infantry Division Association. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, working in the garden, and traveling.

Harold passed away at 93 years of age on January 2, 2017.

Harold is survived by his wife, Alice Sorenson of Ames; his children, Richard (Nancy) Sorenson of Ankeny, Paula (Denny) Elliott of Boone and Brian (Kathy) Sorenson of Ames; his grandchildren, Krista (Josh) Moorman, Jessica (Lee) Morgan, Alyssa Sorenson, Chris Sorenson and Maria Sorenson; his great-grandchildren, Sydney, Kelsea, Jacob, Bryana and Reagan; his brother, Hubert Tussey; his sister, Gladys Witthuhn; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Irvin, Lester and Richard; and his sister, Verna Hanson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern Ave., Ames, IA 50010.
