DEATH OF T. P. CHANCE

Thomas P Chance of St. Anthony, well and most favorably known in Nevada from his former residence here, died after a very brief illness Saturday afternoon at his home near St. Anthony. His death was the result of apoplexy which came upon him without warning Friday while he was feeling entirely well and attending to the hauling of some oats to town. The first stroke produced paralysis, from which, however, he showed signs of rallying but another stroke Saturday afternoon was conclusive and brought the end quickly.

Mr. Chance was 71 years of age on the 5th of June last and was native of Coshocton, Ohio, at which place he grew up and in due time enlisted in the 122d Ohio Infantry. His service lasted for about three years, nearly a year of that time being spent in Rebel prisons and seven months of it in Andersonville. After the war he was married at Coshocton to Miss Mary Corbett, and the next year, 1866, they removed to Iowa and made their settlement at Illinois Grove in the northwest corner of Marshall county. They were pioneers but they grew up with the country, raised a large family and prospered. Mrs. Chance died in 1902, and in 1904 he was again married, to Mrs. Clara Shedd of Nevada. Shortly after their marriage they went to California. For the last year and a helf they had been back on the farm near St. Anthony. Mr. Chance leaves a widow and ten children, of his first wife, and a step-daughter, Mrs. John R. Larson of Nevada. He was a man of much worth who was highly esteemed, and his death will occasion much regret.

The funeral will be held at his late home Wednesday at ten o'clock.
