Janice Mae Olson was born January 8, 1937 to Harold and Esther (Peterson) Maxwell in Ames, Iowa. She graduated from Ames High School in 1955. Janice worked for Fareway, Knapp Insurance, and would type dissertations and thesis for students. Janice also worked for 37 years at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames - starting in the secretary pool and then as the secretary for the director. She retired in 2000.
Janice was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Ames, the American Business Women's Association, and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). She enjoyed volunteering at Mary Greeley Medical Center.
Janice loved to garden, play tennis, bowl, go bird watching, and attend Thursday night concerts at Bandshell Park. She loved children of all ages, going on walks, and spending time with her family.
Janice is survived by her daughters, Denise Doyle of Ames and Debra (Mark) Bishop of Carrollton, Texas; her son, Dean (Nadine) Olson of Ames; her grandchildren, Daniel (Kristin) Doyle, Andrew Doyle, Donovan Doyle, Maggie Doyle, Adam (Liz) Bishop, Jordan (Kyle) Mc Mahon, Heather Coburn and Brad Olson; and her sister, Margaret (Ted) Brubacher.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Harold Maxwell and David Maxwell.
