Alice Joann Riley died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on October 5, 2016. Visitation will be held Monday, October 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines and the funeral service on Tuesday, October 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Ave. in Clive, IA. Burial will be at Little Sioux Cemetery in Little Sioux, IA.

Alice was born February 3, 1934 at Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City, IA. Her parents were Elias Lyman Riley and Anna Marie Johnson of Little Sioux, IA. Alice attended and graduated from Little Sioux High School. While in high school Alice and Richard (Dick) Dague became sweethearts. In 1950 Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and while on leave on March 23, 1952, Alice and Dick were married. To this union were born four children, Diane Kaye 1953, Jacqueline Irene 1955, Richelle Rae 1956 and Richard Michael 1958.

Their first residence was in Missouri Valley, Iowa. In August 1955, the family moved to Ames, IA where Dick began studies in engineering at Iowa State University. Alice also enrolled in classes but soon there were three little girls to care for, so Alice decided to be a full-time MOM. In 1958 Richard Michael was born to make the family complete.

In 1960, Dick graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. He continued his studies and in 1961 received a Master’s Degree in Sanitary Engineering. All this time Alice maintained a peaceful environment at home.

Alice’s career consisted of being a wife and mother. The family would move many times and Alice always found new friends. One of her favorite sports was bowling. She was President of the Faculty Women’s Club Bowling League both in Iowa City and Ames, IA. She enjoyed many crafts and hobbies including crochet, quilting, home decorating, cooking and shopping.

Alice was a member of many organizations. Officer in ALCW at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City, IA and BLCW at Bethesda Lutheran church in Ames, IA. Also a member of Faculty Women’s Club in Iowa City and ISU Women’s club in Ames, IA. Alice also did volunteer work.

She is survived by her children, Diane (Gary) Benjamin of Clive, IA, Jacqueline (Larry) Nicholson of Delafield, WI, Richelle (Brad) Oglesby of North Liberty, IA and Richard Dague of Johnston, IA; ten grandchildren, Andrea, Ashley, Leah, Caleb, Benjamin, Jacob, Christopher, Carrie, Elizabeth and Steven; and 8 great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents, six brothers and two sisters.
