Sherilyn “Sherry” M. McDonald was born May 22, 1941 to Sheridan and Marguerite (Peterson) Grunsted north of Roland, Iowa. Sherry graduated from McCallsburg High School and Waldorf College. She was a life-long member of Salem Lutheran Church. She was a forever house-cleaner, wallpaper hanger and home painter, and would gently and humbly do almost anything. Sherry was involved in Friends and Service, RADC and was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Roland.

She loved extended family gatherings, especially planning the annual summer family reunion in Clear Lake. Sherry enjoyed cheering for the Hawkeyes, Cyclones, Dutch, Dragons and Norsemen. She was proud of her sons and grandchildren and loved attending their athletic, dance, music, drama and tulip festival activities. Sherry enjoyed eating kringla, watching athletic events, caring for flowers in her yard and her adopted dog, Samantha, making meals for others, and staying connected to family and friends. She loved the many families that she worked for over the years - and their pets! Sherry also loved her nieces and nephews like her own children.

Sherry passed away at 75 years of age on October 10, 2016 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Sherry is survived by her two sons, Todd (Kris) of Orange City and Thomas (Michelle) of Johnston; five grandchildren, Lauren, Emily, Hayley, Grant and Meredith; a great-grandson, Madden; and two sisters, Mary Ann Anderson of Roland and Bev Stole of Mesa, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Virginia Kay, Marge Chamberlain and Betty Ragee; and her brothers, Gene, Johnny and Paul Grunsted.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name.
