A telegram received at the Payne home last Monday noon announced the death of Mrs. Payne's brother, Mr. James E. Brown, Luverne, Minn., in the early morning of that day. Mr. Brown had been an occasional visitor here in years past and will probably be remembered by some of our older residents. He came west from New York state some thirty or more years ago and located on a farm some ten miles from his recent residence. He was a veteran of the civil war and nearly, if not quite so, an octogenarian. He was likewise a successful farmer and an all round useful and worthy citizen. He will be long and affectionately remembered by his family friends, his old comrades in arms and all fellow citizens who become intimately acquainted with him. Of his immediate family leaves one son who will deeply feel his loss.
