Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Florence Eveline Hartley was born January 17, 1926, to Ben and Sarah (George) Hartley in Maxwell, Iowa, the first of eleven children. She was saved at the age of 10 in an evangelistic meeting and was baptized, joining the Methodist Church in Maxwell. She graduated from Maxwell High School and attended the University of Iowa Nursing Program.

On April 20, 1947, Florence married Harold R. Wheeler of Cambridge. She was part of the Cambridge community the rest of her life, raising her family there. She was involved in many, many things from Cub Scouts to the Library to City Council.

In 1973, Florence and Harold opened “Wheeler's”, which was located on main street. She loved people coming and going in the store and began a second career as the Cambridge Historian. In 2006, she wrote that she had “gathered history of Cambridge from newspapers, collected over 4000 obituaries—which are history—and corresponded with many people from California to Maine, and Oregon to Florida, who shared or wanted a bit of family history”.

She was also active in Faith Baptist Church, serving God and encouraging people in whatever capacity she could. Her social ability went with her to Sunny View Care Center in 2011, where she counted it her mission to encourage "the old people". Those peaceful years continued until January of this year when she celebrated her 90th birthday with many friends and family.

The ensuing months brought rapid decline. She moved to the Madrid Home, and it was there on August 21, 2016 she achieved glory and entered into the presence of her Lord.

Surviving family include her children, Richard Wheeler, Roxana (Bill) Currie, Robert (Ronda) Wheeler and Roger (Lisa) Wheeler; her grandchildren, Lena (Robert) Newburg, Keith (Lindy) Wheeler, Aaron (Haley) Currie, Angela Currie, Adam (Mel) Currie, Sarah (Justin) McElvaney, Kim (Trevor) Askren, Mollie Wheeler, Nick Perez, Nic (Deanna) Wheeler, Jessie (Quentin) Riser and Noah Wheeler; her great-grandchildren, Kelsey Guerra, Jordan Newburg, Shannon Newburg, Dakota Newburg, Coty (Carl) Ritchey, Blaine (Hayliegh DeMoss) Griener, Keara Wheeler, Kale Wheeler, Tate Currie, Erianna Currie, Aaron Currie, Ashtyn Currie, Talon Currie, Hank Currie, Tristyn Rumbaugh, Tabytha Currie-Liggett, Ethan McElvaney and Evelyn McElvaney; her great great-grandchildren, Alex, Cata, Lily, Leah Rea and Carly; her siblings, Ben (Joanne) Hartley, Patricia Taylor, Alice Kahler, Louise Burandt and Linda (Dennis) Eden; and her in-laws, Arnold Leland and Karen Wheeler.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; and her daughter-in-law, So Young Wheeler.

A memorial has been established in her name.
