C.M. Peabody, Prominent in I.O.O.F., Dies
Clarence m. Peabody, 63, resident of Ames for 30 years and prominent in the Odd Fellow and Knights of Pythias lodges, died at 9:40 a. m., Tuesday at his home on North Grand avenue. He had been ill since the first of August. Death was caused by cancer.
Mr. Peabody had been a painting contractor for several years. He was well known thruout Story county thru his fraternal connections, in which he had taken an active part, achieving the highest active part, achieving the highest office and honors of both the Odd Fellows and the Pythian order.
He had been a member of the I. O. O. F. order since 1913, and had twice been elected noble grand. He also served two years as representative of the district in the grand lodge of Iowa, and at the time of his death was chairman of the Odd Fellows Home endowment fund, a state function. He was a member of the Nevada encampment, and also of the order of Samaritans, a branch of Odd Fellowship.
In the Pythian order, he was a past chancellor commander, the highest honors available in that fraternity. He also was a member of the order of Red Men.
Mr. Peabody was born in New York state, March 11, 1869. He is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Lula Wingert of Des Moines, and a brother, Earl Peabody, residing in Ohio. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
