From the Ames Daily Tribue (Ames, Iowa), Monday, October 1, 1945:

Obituary
Mary Tweedt, daughter of Knudt and Martha Tweedt, was born in Olen-Etna-Fjelbergs, Prestegield, Norway, June 18, 1859.

Her Uncle John Severson came from America for the express purpose of taking his widowed sister's family from Norway to America, and whose death occurred while enroute back and his burial was made in England, the family traveling on alone and arriving in America, June 9, 1877.

In March, 1855, she was united in marriage to Andrew L. Dobbe by Reverend Holm, at the home of Halvor Dobbe.

They established their home in Emmet county, and lived there until the year of 1903 at which time they came to Story county. To this union were born eight children.

When a young girl she was bapitzed and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Noway and remained an active member until the time of her death. She trusted in her Lord Jesus Christ and lived a true and faithful Christian life. She was greatly loved by her children and all who knew her. Her earnest, Godly, consecrated Christian life, and her sacrificial disposition left a deep influence upon her family and friends.

Truly the words of God found in the 31st chapter of Proverbs can be applied to her beautiful life.

The words in the last verses of the chapter, "She opened her mouth with widsom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of illness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, praiseth her. Favor is deceitful and beauty is is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord she shall be praised."

She was a praying and loving Mother and her love for the word of God was an asset to her friends, for she was always sharing the blessed truths with her neighbors and friends. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

Those who remain to revere her memory are six daughters, Mrs. Minnie Loucks of Slater, Mrs. Isabelle Larson and Mrs. Carrie Hendricks of Huxley, Ia., Mrs. Hattie Hemphill of Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Mable Potter of Bannockbun, Ill., Mrs. Lillian Way, of Pasadena, Calif., one son, Martin Dobbe, of Butterfield, Minn., one brother, S. K. Tweedt, fifteen grandchilren and eleven great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband, one son, Lewis, two sisters and one brother.

She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Loucks of Slater, on September 20, 1945 at the age of 86 years, after an illness of almost six weeks.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Dobbe were held at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 26, from the Ovid Loucks home in Slater and at two o'clock at the Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. H. E. Jacobson. Before the services, Walter Christoper sang "Jesus Lover of my Soul." He was accompanied on the organ by Miss Brendeland who furnished music for the services.

The obituary was read by Rev. Jacobson. Walter Christopher sang, "Sunrise Tomorrow."

Many loving friends and relatives came to pay the last tribute of respect. Besides the many beautiful floral offerings, many gifts to various missions were given in her memory.

Pall-bearers were E. B. Tweedt of Sheldahl, Ia., Martin Shilahl, of Sheldahl, Ia., Lars Kalvik, of Jewell, Ia., Fred Anderson, Boone, Ia., Ole Fjelland of Huxley, Ia., and Omer Westre of Jewell, Ia.

Burial was made at the Palestine cemetery beside her husband, who passed away almost seventeen years ago.
