Funeral of Mrs. Boyd

The funeral of the late Mrs. Boyd was conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church, Rev. McDade officiating.

Frances Bates Boyd was born Nov. 4, 1852 in Ohio and died at Nevada, Iowa, Oct. 19, 1914 aged 61 years 11 months and 15 days. She was the youngest of the twelve children of Humphrey and Elizabeth Bates and survived them all. She came to Jasper county, Iowa with her parents when a girl and lived there until her marriage to G. W. Boyd in 1874. She and her husband came to Nevada which had since been the home. There were four children, Orville Lee Boyd, Spokane, Wash.; Edgar Rosell Boyd, Nevada; Bessie Maud Boyd, deceased; and Earl Bates Boyd, Nevada. Mr. Boyd died Jan. 1, 1903.

Other relatives and friends that attended the funeral were Mrs. D. W. Clayton, a sister-in-law, and daughter Pearl of Kelley; Mrs. H. E. Love, a sister-in-law, Newton; Miss S. E. Battles, Mitchellville; Miss Charity Boyd, Colfax, who was visiting with Mrs. Boyd at the time of her sudden death; Mrs. A. R. Underwood, a niece, Des Moines; Wm. Bates, a nephew, and his wife, Iowa Falls; Mrs. C. Christensen and Miss Hilda Clayberg, Story City.

Mrs. Boyd was an earnest, devoted christian woman. She united with the Methodist church when a girl in Jasper county. She was highly respected by her neighbors and friends all of whom deeply mourn her death.
