Nellie Amelia Lounsbury was born Nov 13, 1884 in Dayton, Oregon. She died 30 Oct 1960 in Colo, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Alice Parson. her father was a prominent Methodist minister in early Oregon and Alaskan history, who authored several well known books on the Methodist church, its men in early Oregon and its establishment in Alaska.
As a minister's daughter, she lived in many places during her childhood and attended many schools. Her formal education terminated upon her graduation from Wilamette University, Salem, Oregon.
On Nov 6, 1909 at Portland, Oregon she married her college classmate, G.L. Lounsbury.
Both had previously lived in Alsaka, they returned to Fairbanks to make it home until 1913 at which time they moved to Colo, Iowa, her husband's home town. Since that time, her home has been in Colo.
She was always a part of the Colo Methodist church-serving many years as director of the choir and throughout her active years as a choir member. She was always active with young people as a teacher, 4-H leader or advisor. She was active in couty affairs, serving as a member of the county board of education in 1929-30, as county woman's 4-H leader and as a member of the first organized county woman's chorus.
She belonged to the Colo Garden Club, Friendly Neighbors of Sherman-New Albany township and B.F. and T. club. She was active in the Farm Bureau work.
She leaves her husband, G.L. Lounsbury and three sons, Lloyd P. of Fairbanks, Alaska, William H. of Colo, Iowa and James of Chicago, IL. In Oregon there are two brothers, Charles Parsons, Newport, Oregon and John Parsons, Eugene, Oregon and in Seattle, WA, a sister, Lucy Jensen. In addition there are 10 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
