96, of Boone and formerly of Colo, died of congestive heart failure on Tuesday, July 31 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. She had been a resident there since March of 1994.
She was born Feb. 22, 1905, north of Colo to Charles B. and Lydia D. (Danskin) Wilson.
She graduated from the State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls with a two-year teaching diploma and married A. Paul Henry on 30 June 1927 in Colo. She taught school in Rowley, Clear Lake and Des Moines and was also employed by R.H. Donnelley Marketing for seven years. She was active in the Colo Library for many years. In December of 1964 she worked as an assistant matron at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone and became a matron in December 1965. She continued in that capacity until July 1976 when she retired. She returned as matron in 1977 until her final retirement in Nov 1979. Agnes was a member of the United Methodist Church in Colo, Order of the Eastern Star, Isabelle Chapter No. 271 in Colo, W.O. Club, the DAR and the Federated Clubs in Colo from 1945 to 1964. She enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and playing the organ. She was a longtime resident of Colo.
Survivors include two sons, Harrison and (Donna) Henry of Colo and Dean and (Carolann) Henry of Roland; four granddaughters and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Oct 16, 1963; a brother, Mark E. Wilson on Dec 17, 1994, a sister, Alice Ball on Nov 18, 1996; and a granddaughter, Linda Henry in 1975.
Funeral services were held Aug 4 at the United Methodist Church of Colo with Pastor Lee Williamson officiating. Burial followed at the Colo Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Agnes' name for the United Methodist Church in Colo or the Colo Library. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
