Jerry Weatherman
February 29, 1932 - June 5, 2016

Jerry was born in Cambridge, Iowa on February 29, 1932 to Edward and Marguerite (Burton) Weatherman in the house where he lived his entire life. He attended and graduated from Cambridge Public School. The last three years he attended, he was a member of the Iowa National Guard. In 1952, Jerry joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict as an air frame repairman, repairing the damaged metal skin of the aircraft returned from battle. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1956.

Following his exit from the military, he started work in the sheet metal trade as an apprentice with the Waldinger Corporation located in the state’s capitol. On January 25, 1957, Jerry married Joan Arlene Severeid in her home congregation of Nazareth Lutheran Church. To this union, three children were born: Daniel Thomas, Connie Jo, and Steven Wade. Of great importance to Jerry was attending his children’s and grandchildren’s church, music, and sporting events.

A longtime member of Nazareth Lutheran, Jerry served as a Trustee and Church Treasurer. In later years, he and Joan became Associate Members at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley. Jerry had also served in his community on the City Council and as a volunteer fireman for twenty years.

Jerry passed away on June 5, 2016 with his loving wife at his side.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday June 9, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley.

Jerald was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marguerite Weatherman, brothers Thomas & Jack Weatherman, and sister Janice (Weatherman) Grove. Survivors include his wife, Joan; children, Daniel Weatherman, Connie (Weatherman) Harper, and Steven Weatherman; and grandchildren, Joshua Harper, Sara (Harper) Mannes and Alexander Weatherman.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department.
