Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Wendell Luing was born August 24, 1922, to Fred and Ica (Downing) Luing in Collins, Iowa. After graduating from Collins High School, he worked on the family farm and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He was a mail carrier in Ames and retired from the U.S. Postal Service July 31, 1987, after 21 years. Wendell married Faye Rude February 21, 1953.

Wendell enjoyed reading, family history, country music, Iowa State basketball, and trips to Grand Marais, Minn. He especially loved time with immediate/extended family; and was a great husband, loving father, and proud grandpa.

Wendell passed away at 93 years of age on Monday, June 6, 2016, at The Gardens at Columbine in Littleton, Colorado.

Wendell is survived by his daughter, Jan (Jim) Hallock of Littleton and their children, Austin and Tanner; his brother, Forrest Luing of Nevada; and his sister, Maxine Omvig of Story City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Faye, in 2006; and his sister, Juanita Chitty.

Any memorials received will be donated by Wendell's daughter, Jan, and her family to The Gardens at Columbine, a rare family-owned assisted living/memory care community. Wendell had his own room in the bright, beautiful memory care building for over a year, with wonderful staff who truly understood the needs of those struggling with dementia/Alzheimer's.
