ANDREW SCOTT Dies Early This Morning

After Years Of Suffering Aged Citizen Called By Death---------

Andrew Scott, a resident of Story county since the fifties, answered the final summons this morning, departing this life at 4:30 o'clock. At his home 622 Kellogg avenue. During his long illness covering ten years he has been a patient suffering forgetful always of self, but ever feeling a tender solicitude for his wife, who constantly cared for him during the years of his inactivity.

For twenty-five years Mr. Scott was a tiller of the soil retiring from active farming life twenty-five years ago when he moved to Ames. Where death came as a relief to hime, his family and friends will miss his companionship.

He is survived by six sons and daughters as follows: Mrs. John Sawin of Ames, John of Ames, Will of Cleveland, Minn., Joe of Parker, S.D., Frank of Ames, and Mrs J. Sadley of Des Moines.

Note: Date of Death 7 Feb 1917. Andrew Scott's first wife and the mother of the above children was Zilpha Ann Grove. She died 2 Feb 1874 at the age of 33 1/2 years. Andrew Scott's second wife was Ida or Ada J. Goldsmith who died 30 Oct 1851.

Update: Luann Scott Ouellette comments: "However, I noticed in reading the obit for Andrew Scott there is an error in the note" ... "about his second wife's death date. Ida actually died March 8, 1934 according to the City of Ames Cemetery Records and her obit in the March 9, 1934 issue of the Ames newspaper. Her name was shown as Ida J. in the obit and just Ida on the Cemetery Record."
