Obituary from Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Boone, Iowa.

Alice Lowe, age 78, of Ames and formerly of Boone, died May 23, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

A visitation will be held Friday, May 28, 2016, at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone from 4 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Following the visitation, Alice will be cremated and a Funeral Mass will be Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone with Rev. Randy Schon officiating. Burial of her cremains will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Alice Marie (Brice) Bechtel Lowe, was born in Boone, Iowa, on April 20, 1938, the daughter of James and Edna (Dailey) Brice.

She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1955.

She married Richard Bechtel on September 6, 1958, at Sacred Heart Church in Boone. In 1963, Richard and Alice adopted Michael Richard and in August of 1965, the couple adopted Jana Marie. Richard died in June of 1978.

Alice married Robert Lowe at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames on February 4, 1983. He died in October of 2013.

Alice began her banking career in 1955 and enjoyed her line of work until 1993, when she retired. She also worked as a teacher’s aide at the Fellows Elementary School in Ames.

Alice was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. She loved playing bridge and was a member of local bridge clubs and was a lifelong Democrat.

Alice loved family, cooking, traveling, especially to New York City. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Travis. He was the light of her life.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a son Michael Bechtel, and half brother, Patrick Brice.

She is survived by a daughter Jana Bechtel Taylor of Ames; a sister Patricia Brice of Des Moines; five brothers, Bob (Linda) Brice of Des Moines, Edward (Charlene) Brice of Boone, Don (Gail) Brice of Ames, Earl (Sue) Brice of Hutchinson, Minnesota, and Tom Brice of Coralville; a grandson Travis (Courtney Yeazel) Taylor of Des Moines; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
