Gilbert – Lucille Elaine McCrea age 76 of Gilbert died Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Israel Hospice House in Ames. Lucille was born October 11, 1939 in Carroll to William “Elmer” and Edith “Evelyn” Peterson of Glidden.
Lucille grew up on the family farm in rural Glidden and attended school and graduated from Glidden High Schools. After graduation she attended nursing school at Marshalltown Evangelical School of Nursing and worked in nursing for several years. Her love for nursing and experiences took her on a journey to go back to school at the Mayo hospitals in Rochester, Minnesota for anesthesia. She graduated as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and worked for 20 years as a “CRNA” from 1971 to 1991 at Mercy and Trinity Regional hospitals in Fort Dodge.
Lucille married Gary Long of Conrad and had two children, they later divorced. On August 18, 1972 Lucille was united in marriage to Phillip Dean McCrea at First United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. Lucy and her two children and Phil and his son were joined together as a family. They worked and raised their family in Fort Dodge from 1972 to 1992. After Lucy retired in 1992 she and Phil moved to Branson, Missouri where they resided for 13 years before moving back to Gilbert, Iowa to be closer to family. The last 10 years Lucy was a member and spent time volunteering at First United Methodist Church in Ames, and Reiman Gardens in Ames, as well as enjoying her grandchildren.
Lucille is survived by her husband Phillip of Gilbert, daughter Lisa (Paul) Zenor of Boone, son Christopher (Elizabeth) Long of Canton, GA, and son Christopher McCrea (companion Stephanie Merrill) of Fort Dodge; sister Marie Fonken of Lake City; grandchildren, Jacob, Tacey and David Zenor, Jessica and Jayme Long, and Michaela Douglas; great-grandchildren Chase and Brady Bonin; sisters-in-law Susan Terry of Early and Sarah McCrea of Ridgedale, MO and brothers-in-law Bill (Linda) McCrea of Lake City and Marty (Sheryl) McCrea of Commerce City, CO, and nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law Richard Fonken and Daryl Terry and nephew Anthony Clark.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with burial in the Lake City Cemetery.
