Two brothers were drowned Thursday in Squaw creek south of Ames, the unfortunates being Jesse Van Scoy, a young man, and Johnnie Van Scoy, an eleven year old boy. The boy got into trouble first, and was himself seized around the neck and made helpless. Not many people were aware that there was water enough in Squaw creek to permit such an accident; but it does not take much water to drown people, if they get in it and get confused. This accident was a very sad one. Jesse Van Scoy leaves a wife and one child.

AMES.

An exceedingly sad drowning accident occurred on Thursday last near the bridge, south of town. Jessie Van Scoy went into the water to save his brother Johnnie 11 years old. The water is supposed to be very deep at that place and it was soon apparent that both boys were in danger of drowning. Word was sent in great haste to town but before relief could come it was too late. Several doctors were on the ground in a few minutes but all their efforts were in vain. Great sympathy is felt for these people in their terrible affliction.
