OBITUARY

MARY ELIZA ALLEN

Mrs. Mary Eliza Allen who has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. E. F. Vail for the past year passed away at the Vail home in this city Tuesday afternoon at 6:30 after an illness which has extended over several months. Mrs. Allen had been very ill for a few weeks and was under the care of a trained nurse until about a week ago when she seemed much better and as recently as Saturday she was up in her chair but later took a turn for the worse and passed away as state on Tuesday afternoon. The body will be taken to the old home at Henry, Ill., for interment after short services at the Vail home conducted by H. A. Barton. Mary Eliza Hunter was born in New York state on October 16, 1834, and lived there until she was bout twelve years of age when she moved with her parents to Illinois coming through in a wagon. Here she spent her girlhood and in 1834 she was married to Henry Howe Allen and she and her husband continued to make their home in Illinois near Bradford and later near Tiskilwa. To this union eight children were born all of whom survive their mother except the oldest daughter Martha, who passed away at the age of twenty-eight. Her husband preceded her in death about ten years ago. The children who survive her are Fred Allen of Winchester, Ill., Alba of Marseilles, Ill., Hiram of Tiskilwa, Ill., Mrs. Hulda Vail of Nevada, Iowa, Mrs. Addie Farley of Kanesville, Ill., Lewis Allen of Lacon, Ill., and Andrew of Chapin, Ill.
