Obituary of Mr. Etnier
Samuel Etnier was born in Huntington Co., Pa., Dec. 14, 1828. When about ten years of age he came with his parents to Fulton county, ill., where he grew to manhood. At the age of twenty two years he enlisted in the Civil war and served his country faithfully and well until he received a wound which compelled his to retire from active service. On March 10, 1864 he was married to Elizabeth Jontz. Eight children were born to them, seven of whom are living. He came with his family to Iowa in 1884 and settled on a farm north of Colo where he departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 2, 1918 at the age of 79 years and 18 days. To the wife and companion of over fifty years he was a true and faithful husband, to the children a devoted father. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, three sons, Arthur of Collins, S. G. of Sheffield, F. G. of Colo, four daughters, Mrs. N. L. Elbert of Cooksville, Ill., Mrs. J. C. Homan of Clarkville, Minn., Mrs. W. C. Arnold of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Mrs. Walter Shearer of Colo; thirty grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Colo Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. J. N. McCurdy, who used as his text Matt. 17:8. Interment was made in the Colo cemetery. All of the children were present at the funeral. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones.
