Curtis A. Severson
April 16, 1923 - April 17, 2016

Curtis A. Severson, age 93, of Nevada, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery with military honors by William F. Ball American Legion Post #48. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m.

Born April 16, 1923, in McCallsburg, Iowa, Curtis Arvid Severson was the son of Clarence and Agnes (Tegland) Severson. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. Curtis graduated in 1941 from McCallsburg High School. He served with Patton’s 3rd Army during World War II. Curtis was a member of William F. Ball American Legion Post #48.

On November 27, 1949, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Smith at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. The couple was blessed with two children, Karla and Kent. Curtis was employed for many years at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada.

He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada where he served on the church council, was a charter member of the Nevada Kiwanis and belonged to Indian Creek Country Club for 44 years. Curtis went fishing in Canada for several years. He loved golfing, gardening and traveling. He and Gert spent 14 winters down south and enjoyed their travels to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, the Bahamas, and Mexico.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gert; his daughter, Karla Severson of Sherman Oaks, CA; his son, Kent Severson of Omaha, NE; a brother, Laverne (Emma Jean) of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Doris Windecker of Iowa Falls; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Curtis and his family.
