Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Marie Baird, 94, passed away April 14, 2016, at Calvin Community in Des Moines. Services will be planned for a later date.

Marie Baird was born June 15, 1921, to Arthur Lawrence and Muriel Maude (Hall) Anderson in Ames, Iowa. She was graduated from Ames High School in 1939 and earned a B.S. in Child Development and Psychology from Iowa State University in 1943. She went on to earn her Master's degree in Child Welfare from the University of Iowa in 1950. Marie worked as a nursery school teacher in both Chicago and Detroit, then spent a year at the University of Texas in Austin as an instructor in Child Development. She returned to Ames and worked for 13 years at Children's Services of Iowa before retiring in 1991.

Marie was a member of P.E.O., Gamma Phi Beta sorority and the Iowa State Alumni Association. She and William A. Baird Jr. married in September of 1944 and had two sons.

Marie is survived by her sons, James Baird of Des Moines and William A. Baird III of Estes Park, Colorado; her daughter-in-law, Joyce (Allard) Baird; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Baird, Allison Baird, Bridger Baird and Hayden Baird; her sister, Phyllis Rademacher; her sister-in-law, Patty Anderson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James H. Anderson; her sister, Joyce A. Reynolds and her daughter-in-law, Judy Rosen.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be designated to Bethesda Community Food Pantry.
