Jeanette W. Layton was born August 31, 1914 to Severt and Randvig (Tweetden) Severson west of Randall, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City, and later confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall by Rev. Paulsrud. She attended Randall School. Jeanette married Frank R. Layton August 26, 1936 at Luther Parsonage in Webster City, Iowa. They farmed around the Stratford area for 11 years. In 1954, they bought an acreage north of Story City. Jeanette was a homemaker, worked at the Story City Public Library for five years, and was known for helping others. She moved to Cedar Place in 1993.

Jeanette passed away at 101 years of age on March 13, 2016 at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Jeanette is survived by four nephews, Ronald Dewall of Chicago, Ill., Leslie Lawrence of Chicago, Roger Madsen of Omaha, Neb., and Sydney Layton of Cedar Falls; three nieces, Joann Layton of Cedar Falls, Marlene Dewall of Chicago, and Lynda Lorenz; three sisters-in-law, Alice Severson of Slater, Clara Madsen of Omaha, and Jennie Lehmen of Webster City; many cousins, including her special cousin, Millie Olson of Story City; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank, on October 27, 1976; two sisters, Marie Lawrence and Alvina Dewall; and a brother, Selmer Severson.
