Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
June Lois Sorenson, formerly of Ames, died peacefully in her sleep and went to be with her Lord Jesus on December 27, 2015. June was born on June 6, 1916, to parents Clinton A. and Olive M. Royer, in Dallas Center, Iowa. June graduated from Waukee High School in 1934 and married Marion (Mick) Sorenson in 1935. She was predeceased by her husband, Mick, who died in 1999, and an infant daughter, Marla Ann. She is survived by two daughters, Carol J. Plumb of Champaign, Illinois and Constance J. Fleig, of Ames; two granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
June lived in Ames most of her adult life and in October of 2012 moved into assisted living in Illinois. June worked at home doing ironing and making draperies until late 1950’s, when she started working for the City of Ames. She continued working in various capacities for the City and at Mary Greeley Hospital until her retirement in 1981.
June remained very active after retirement - as a volunteer at the hospital, golfing, and enjoying free time with family. She was also active with the Heartland Senior Center and participated in many of their performances. June was a long-time member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames.
June's witness of God’s love for all was very evident in the way she lived each of her 99 years. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
