SUBMITTER'S NOTE: James A. Vail was the half-brother of Ida (McBarnes) Muir (Mrs. William Muir.) Their mother was Charlotte Allyn who married (1) David C. Vail (the father of James A. Vail) and married (2) John McBarnes on 26 September 1865 in Story County, Iowa. John McBarnes was the father of Ida (McBarnes) Muir.
