From Nevada Representative June 24, 1891
Mrs. Julia A. Ross.
In the death of Mrs. Julia A. Ross, which occurred at her home in Nevada, a few minutes before noon Tuesday, June 22d, 1891, another of the pioneer residents and a most estimable woman has passed to her reward. Mrs. Ross was a native of Martinburg, Knox county, Ohio, a daughter of Judge Wm. McCreary and was born September 14th 1830.
Her years of childhood, youth, and young womanhood were passed in her native town, and her marriage to T. J. Ross in 1854 was solemnized in the home of her birth. She came with her husband to Story county in 1856 and located at Iowa Centre. A year or two later they removed to Nevada where she has since resided, more or less thirty years. During her sickness which has extended over a period of two years she had been a great but patient sufferer, grateful for the ministrations of her family and friends and willing to live or die according to the will of her heavenly Father. She joined the Presbyterian communion in early life and was one of the eleven members that organized the Presbyterian church of Nevada. Her life has honored her church relations. Kindly in disposition, gracious in manner, helpful in spirit and generous in her sympathies, she won the lasting affection of of her children and the sincere regard of neighbors and social associates. She goes down to her grave possessing the high esteem of a host of friends, indeed of all who came within the circle of her acquaintance.
Her daughters, Mrs. Dr. Boardman and Mrs. Carrie Horton and sister, Mrs. Sarah Toms, were present to tenderly minister to her needs and to receive her dying benedictions. One sister, Mrs. Mary Simons, of Fort Scott, Kansas, could not be with her. Her funeral services will be held to-morrow, Thursday, at the Methodist church and will be conducted by her pastor, Rev. Mr. Coyle. The heartfelt condolence of the community goes out to the bereaved family.
