December 16, 1949 - January 22, 2016
From: Stratford, IA | Originally: Nevada, IAMarvin (Joe) Cornelius, age 66, of Stratford and formerly of Nevada, Iowa, died Friday, January 22, 2016, at Stratford Specialty Care in Stratford.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, with Pastor Chris Waddle officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown.
Born December 16, 1949, in Marshalltown, Iowa, Joe was the son of Marvin and Ruth (Devick) Cornelius. He attended early grade school in Marshalltown and moved to Nevada in 1962. Joe graduated from Nevada High School in 1968, then attended the Skill Center for Machinists. He worked for Donnelly Marketing in Nevada, Sundstrand Company in Ames, and finished his career at the Iowa State Memorial Union in Ames.
Joe participated in high school sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, but enjoyed watching all sports. He was a huge history buff and had a great command of all trivia.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin; a brother, Doug Cornelius; his step-father, Jerry Hines; a step-brother, Kent Hines; his grandparents; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Hines of Nevada; a sister, Debbie (Scott) Presler of Palo; two step-sisters, Annette Forbes and Mary (Jan) Sherwood, all of Ames; two step-brothers, Neal Hines of Ames and Mark Hines of Des Moines; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Joe and his family.
