From Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Phyllis Marie Fisher passed away quietly on January 21, 2016 following complications of heart surgery.

Phyllis was born February 24, 1929 in Dysart, Iowa to Eldon and Esther (Pierce) Leo. The youngest of three sisters, Phyllis was raised on a typical Iowa farmstead.

She attended high school in Dysart in 1947. She loved attending college football games and other sporting events with her father. After high school, she attended Iowa State Teachers College, now University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1951.

Phyllis taught home economics and science at a series of small Iowa high schools, including Fonda, Pleasantville, and Truesdale. She married Charles Fisher on December 3, 1955 in Storm Lake, Iowa and remained happily married for the next 60 years.

Together they had two sons, David Charles and Dennis Scott. Phyllis became a stay-at-home mother and efficient manager of their home when her husband was traveling for his job.
Phyllis enjoyed sewing quilt tops and the resulting beautiful quilts were given to family and friends. She was seldom found without a book at hand and also enjoyed assembling jigsaw puzzles, collecting figurines, and was an avid shopper.

Phyllis is survived by her husband; sons David (Kristine) of San Jose, CA, Dennis (Peggy) of Decatur, IL; beloved granddaughters Erin and Lauren of Decatur, IL; sister Betty of Portland, OR; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Eleanor.
Phyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m., January 28, 2016 with a memorial service to follow. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
