Robert was born June 8, 1922 to Christ H. and Marie (Mason) Risdal on the family farm northeast Roland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bergen Lutheran Church. Robert remained a lifelong member of Bergen Church serving many years as the Sunday School Treasurer. Robert received his education attending Roland Public School, graduating in 1940. He entered the army in September 1944 and received his basic training at Camp Walters, Texas. After basic training he served in Company D of the 254th Infantry, 63rd Division in the European Theater until his discharge in 1946.

Robert married Esther Louise Ritland on February 7, 1948 at Bergen Lutheran Church. To this strong and loving marriage were born three sons. Robert and Esther enjoyed many years farming in the Radcliffe and Roland area. While farming, Robert served two terms on the coop elevator board of directors. He was also a member of the Roland Legion Post #307. Robert and Esther moved to Roland in 1986 and have resided until October 2015 when Robert transitioned to Bethany Manor.

Robert was a friend to all and made everyone feel at ease. His easy going attitude and joyful nature made him an extra special person. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking and most of all activities with his family. His loving and generous spirit will be missed by many.
