From Nevada Representative January 7, 1891

--Mrs. Frank Curtiss was called to Clinton recently by the death of her mother.

On the same page:

The death of the mother of Mrs. Frank Curtiss of Milford is thus recorded in the Clinton Herald of January 3d. Died, at noon, today, at the residence of her son, J. H., 106 Seventh avenue, Mrs. Susan Schmitz. She was born in Rhine, Prussia, Nov. 11, 1808. Thus has passed away at a good old age a noble woman, greatly loved and honored by her children and grandchildren. She came to this country in 1844, settling in Chicago where he husband died four years later. Left in a strange land with a large family she struggled bravely and kept them together until of an age to do for themselves. As they one after another had homes of their own she resided with them spending her time happy and contented among them; always a welcome guest--all loved to have grandma come. Of eight living children, seven were permitted to be with her in her last hours. The funeral will be held from the Seventh avenue home at 2 p. m. Monday.
