Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Anna M. (Jansen) Barkema was born December 20, 1931 to Herman and Lena (Greenfield) Jansen. She was born and raised on a farm outside of Kamrar. She attended and graduated from Kamrar High School and was a proud member of the 1948 national basketball team. She worked for 20 years at the Jewell Farm Store.

In 1949, she married Delbert Claude. To their union two children were born, Steven Craig Claude and Terry Lou Claude (Ketter). In 1958, Delbert was killed in a gun accident. In September 1960, Anna married Paul Barkema. They had one son, Timothy Paul Barkema. Paul passed away in December 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lena (Greenfield) Jansen; her sister, Joyce Hinderaker; and her brother, Ben Jansen.

Anna passed away November 26, 2015 at the age of 83.

Anna will be forever loved by those she left behind. She is survived by her children, Steve (Wandy) Claude, Terry (John) Ketter and Tim (Michelle) Barkema; five grandchildren, Melissa Ober, Kristina Nielsen, Brandon Barkema, Autumn Garlough and Briana Barkema; nine great-grandchildren, Joey, Lani, Jacy, Benjamin, Skyler, Terrance, Floyd, Lilyana and Azreal; her brothers, Arend (Betty) Jansen, Elton (Pat) Jansen and Jim (Jean) Jansen; and her sister-in-law, Janet Jansen.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations go toward erecting memorial benches in her honor.
