Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Mary Ann Barnes was born December 19, 1930 to Albert and Minnie (Luetkeman) Plagman in Cherokee, Iowa. Mary Ann was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and Past President of Heartland Senior Center. She loved bird watching, fishing and gardening. She also loved her volunteer work in her church and at Heartland Senior Center. Mary Ann especially loved her family and caring for them.

Mary Ann passed away at 84 years of age on November 25, 2015 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Forrest Barnes of Ames; two daughters, Teresa (Barry) Abrahams of Lincoln, Neb. and Sandra (Tim) Larson of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sons, Sam (Andrea) Shaffer of Ames and Ben (Michelle) Shaffer of Grinnell; one step-daughter, Lynn (Rick Sneden) Barnes of Cedar Rapids; one step-son, Guy (Wendy) Barnes of Santa Fe, N.M.; six grandchildren, Gabe Larson of Memphis, TN.; Hanna (Tim) Cook of Jacksonville, Fla.; McKenzie Shaffer, Luke Shaffer and Daniel Shaffer all of Huxley, Matthew (Vela) Farquharson of Boulder, Co. and one great-grandchild, Kaylee Cook of Jacksonville, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Leo; and two sisters, Leona and Virgie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Heartland Senior Center of Ames or Northminster Presbyterian Church (Education) in Ames.
