From Nevada Representative January 15, 1890

Obituary.

Henry Edward Kuhn was born in Frederick Co., Md. June 4, 1887. Came to Indiana with his parents in 1849. At the call of his country he enlisted in the fall of 1861, and became a member of Co. K. 52nd Ind. Infantry. He was discharged from the service, Sept. 30, 1865, having been in the army over four years. He as a faithful soldier during all the time of his service. He was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Apple Nov. 21, 1867, and came to Iowa in March 1868, and settled in Richland Twp., Story county, seven miles northeast of Nevada, where he lived until his death, which occurred at his home on Thursday Jan 9, '90. The funeral took place on Sabbath, Jan. 12, at M. E. church in Johnson's Grove, the services being conducted by Rev. R. A. Ferguson of Maxwell. He being a member of the Nevada Post it was his request that he be buried by his comrades, but this was prevented by the storm prevailing at that time. Mr. Kuhn had been a consistent member of the M. E. church since 1886. He was a good man in every respect, and will be very much missed, not only by his family, but likewise by the community in general. He had long been in poor health, and confined to his home for several months. His death, no doubt, was due to exposure, while in the service; it finally developed in to consumption, which ended his life. His death was peaceful and happy, notwithstanding he suffered much. His wife and eight children survive him and have the sympathy of the community in their severe bereavement.
