From Nevada Representative January 30, 1889

In Memory of Viva, Daughter of R. H. and A. Thornton

She is not dead, she only lies a-sleeping
Her dear head is pillowed on her Savior's breast.
Then why this wringing of hand and mourning:
There is no cause for tears, she is at rest.

Her voice now strung to notes of gladness
We never hear throughout the live-long day;
The memories of the past rise up and haunt us,
And we mourn our loved one, passed away.

Will we ne'er behold that lovely smile
As we did in happy days gone by?
Will we ne'er caress our babe so dear,
Gaze on dimpled cheek and azure eye?

Dear Viva thou art gone to rest,
With companion angels ever bright and fair,
Resting in the arms of eternal Love;
Pray to him that we will meet your there.

"Suffer little children to come unto me
And forbid them not," was our Savior's request.
Then weep for her no more,
Her suffering is o'er, our loved one is at rest.
Jan. 5, 1889 A.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Viva Thornton was the daughter of Robert H Thornton and Anna Kerr.
