From Nevada Representative June 30, 1886
Obituary.
Mrs. W. G. Allen, whose death has been anticipated for some weeks passed the better land Sunday morning, June 27th, 1886. She was born near St. Albans, Vermont, Sept. 26, 1826. Her maiden name was Mary M. Buel. When a child she moved with her parents to Ohio. In early womanhood she became a member of the M. E. Churchm and soon after, Dec. 18, 1845, was married to W. G. Allen, with whom for nearly forty-one years, she lived an honored and beloved wife. In 1856 with her husband and two children, she came to Story county, Iowa, where her home has since been. Mrs. Allen was one of the original members of the Nevada M. E. society and during all the years of existence, a faithful and exemplary member. She was an earnest Sunday school worker until her health failed, and indeed in all the activities of the denomination to which she belonged, she was a sympathetic and helpful laborer. She was also a warm advocate of the cause of temperance. In fact in all efforts to elevate human kind her kindly word and helpful hand were always ready. In her relations with her neighbors and friends she was exceptionally kind and considerate, and many are they who have been indebted to her, in hours of sickness and sorrow, for kindly ministrations. She lived a good life, and many aside from her sorrowing family, will keep her long in grateful remembrance. Her funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. Mr. Jeffrey, and her mortal remains laid to rest in the cemetery.
