Joseph Meddaugh, whose funeral took place in this city Thursday, Jan. 14, 1886, was born in Terre Haute, Ind., July 22, 1822 and died after a lingering and painful illness, Jan. 15, 1886, aged 63 yrs., 5 mo. and 22 days. He removed to Illinois and from Illinois to Wapello Co., Ia. he entered the 36th Ia. Infantry in 1862 and served 3 years. He has been a worthy citizen of Story county for twelve years. The soldiers of the Grand Army attended the funeral and after a sermon in the Baptist church by Eld. D. L. Clouse proceeded to the cemetery and committed the mortal remains of their comrade to the grave with the solemn and impressive ceremonies of their order.
