Marilee E. Golike passed peacefully from this life into God’s hands on October 10, 2015 with family by her side. Marilee was the fifth of six children born to William Garfield and Ora Belle (Wolfe) Cooper in London, Minnesota. At birth, her given name was Esther Elaine, but she initiated a change to Marilee E while in college. She graduated from High School in Ames, IA in 1941 and from Northwestern Bible College (Minneapolis, MN) in 1944.

Following graduation, she worked for the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles CA before marrying Delbert (Deb) Golike, a student at Westmont College (Santa Barbara, CA) on August 24, 1946. Marilee and Deb met while students at Northwestern Bible College. They developed a strong interest in rural mission work through service with the American Sunday School Union in communities around Santa Barbara. After Deb graduated from college in 1950, they moved to Northwestern Colorado to teach Bible classes, youth clubs, and Sunday Schools with Young Life. They worked in rural schools from Craig to Bond.

With Deb, Marilee continued in Christian ministry and served several churches in Yampa, Hayden, Fruita, Glade Park, Gateway, and Hotchkiss, CO as well as a church in Ogden UT. Marilee was also very involved in women’s Bible studies and Children’s ministries. After moving to Grand Junction, CO in 1967, Marilee became involved in local politics and served for several years as delegate to the State Republican convention and as a poll watcher for area elections.
After Deb developed Alzheimer’s disease, Marilee cared for him with a passion until his passing in 2009. She is preceded in death by her husband Deb, one brother Keith, three sisters Roma Jean, Veva and N’ Glee. Survivors include one sister Marlys Scott of Slater, IA, three sons (Greg of New Bern, NC; Curtis of Golden, CO and Andrew of Fruita, CO), thirteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Private interment has taken place in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western CO. A celebration of Marilee’s life will take place at New Life Church on 7th and Kennedy, at 2 p.m. Saturday the 28th of November, 2015.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glade Park Bible Church, PO Box 23054, Glade Park, CO 81523; or to Mount Elim Bible Camp, PO Box 155, Kremmling, CO 80459.
