Allan R Beck of Story City, was born May 18, 1934, to Nels and Hazel (Smith) in Audubon County, Iowa. Allan graduated from Exira High School in 1953 and then got his Horticulture degree from Iowa State. After serving in the US Army, he completed his masters degree at ISU. His career life was spent at ISU, Ames Greenhouses, Iowa State Fair Judging, and Agri-Crops Consulting.

Allan married Nadine Chentland on October 2, 1960. In 1971, they moved to Story City and raised their family.

Allan was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City, the Iowa State Horticulture Society, Trees Forever and the Iowa Nut Growers Association. He enjoyed crocheting, gardening, traveling, sharing his knowledge of trees and of plant care, and going to all the activities of his 12 grandchildren.

Allan passed away at 81 years of age on November 4, 2015 at Mary Greely Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

Allan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nadine Beck of Story City; his children, LeAnn Gamm of Lino Lakes, MN, David (Cathy) Beck of Story City, Lisa (Mike) Votek of Gretna, NE, Darwin (Leslie) Beck of Waukee, Lori (Bill) Butler of Alleman; and his grandchildren, Justin LaValle, Jenna LaValle, Jared Gamm, Danielle Beck, Austin Beck, Ethan Beck, Alex Votek, Amber Votek, Sam Beck, Laura Beck, Jordan Olsen and Jessica Butler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Lynette, in 1962; and his son-in-law, Dave Gamm.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City.
