Obituary.

Mrs. James Earl died of diphtheria Wednesday, December 11th. The funeral services were conducted from the house, a few thoughts being presented from the words of Christ: "What I do thou knowest not now, but thou shalt know hereafter." She contracted the disease in faithfully waiting on her son, who died of the same disease several days previous. It was fondly oped that the faithful use of means for her recovery might avail, but the delusive nature of the disease baffled all efforts. While Mrs. Earl was not a church member, she expressed the earnest desire and purpose, should she recover, to publicly profess her faith in Christ. She expressed sincere sorrow for not faithfully owning to the world what she tried to live in her life and desired to receive the holy ordinance of baptism, not trusting in that for her salvation, but willing to do what her Savior commanded. Her death was one of perfect trust in the power and willingness of Christ to save. Her last words were expressions of earnest solicitude for her husband and children, that they might realize what a comfort trusting faith was to her when dying. Though suffering severely, and anxious to go and be at peace, yet when it was suggested that it might be god's will that she should get well, she submitted patiently to every effort for her relief. It was at comfort to know that during the last hour the struggle seemed to cease and in perfect calm, like a child in sleep, her spirit passed peacefully away. The home of her husband and son will indeed be desolate, and we commend them to the keeping of the faithful Shepherd and Bishop of our Souls.
