From Nevada Representative July 11, 1883

Independence day, Cassius Baker of Marshalltown, while bathing in the Iowa River, got into deep water and was drowned. He was a promising young man of nineteen years, the leader in scholarship of his class and the salutatorian at the recent commencement exercises of the High School in Marshalltown.
