From Nevada Representative November 1, 1905

Mrs. Mary A. Duckworth an early resident of Boone was found dead in her kitchen at noon Monday. She had been subject to attacks of dizziness and fainting, and it is believed that, being seized with one of these spells while working over her gas stove, she fell to the floor; and the gas being turned on, it escaped into the room and caused her death by asphyxiation. She leaves three sons and three step daughters. One of the latter resides in Ames.

From Nevada Representative November 8, 1905

Mrs. Mary A. Duckworth, whose death from asphyxiation occurred at Boone a weeks ago, was one of the pioneers of Story county. She was formerly Mrs. Thomas Black and with her husband came to Story county in 1856, purchased of the government the farm now owned by George Henry Maxwell and made first improvements thereon. This was years before the Northwestern was built as Ames was thought of. Mr. Black dying, she after a few years married Mr. Duckworth and in 1864 they removed to Boone county.
