Claire Eugene Baldwin was born on April 6, 1933 to Bernard and Audrey (Shultz) Baldwin in Floyd County, Iowa. He was a 1951 graduate of Rockford High School. He then received his teaching degree in 1955 at Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI) in Cedar Falls. Claire and Dawn Helkenn were married on May 28, 1955. He proudly served and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. In 1958, Claire pursed his computer career (computers being in their infancy) in Chicago and formed his owned software company.

His many interests included ceramics, football, travel, and racing sports cars. Claire held offices in the Iowa Region Sports Car Club of America and in the Iowa and National Mercedes-Benz Club of America. He was also a lifetime member in AMVETS, Civil Air Patrol and the Jaycees.

Claire was a leader and had a very social, outgoing personality and loved to joke and talk with everyone. He also enjoyed playing golf but was not very good at it!

Claire passed away at 82 years of age on September 14, 2015 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames after nearly two years of care at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Claire is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Dawn Baldwin of Roland; his daughters, Linda Boldfriend of Ames and Lorelei (Jack) Zimmer of Wisconsin; six granddaughters, Heather (Chad) Johnson of Ames, Amanda (Zeth) Giles of Illinois, Faith (Eric) Hagedorn of Wisconsin, Hope (Casey) Gries of Roland, Sarah (Ryan) Jordan of Illinois, Charity (Karel) Dusikova of the Czech Republic; twelve great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Rebekah, Christian Strobl-Gries and Jonathan Gries, Zayn, Bianca, Ace, Vincent and Knox Giles, Brennan and Gretchen Hagedorn and Nathaniel Johnson; his sisters, Rachel Vincent of Sumner and Darlene Keifer of Greene; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; three brothers; his grandson, Jonathan Strazheim; his great-granddaughter, Katherine Hagedorn; and his nephew, Scott Wells.

A sincere thank you to Bethany Manor and Israel Family Hospice House for the care and compassion provided to Claire and his family.
