Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Shirley Mae Barber was born January 28, 1938 to Karl and Mabel (Ardell) Keeney in Nevada, Iowa. She married Ray Gene Barber, Sr. December 5, 1957. She enjoyed going to garage sales, learning about family genealogy, having coffee with friends, and spending time with her family.

Shirley passed away August 27, 2015 at her home in Ames at 77 years of age.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Lonnie Barber and J.R. (Michelle) Barber, all of Ames; two daughters, June Ann Schmalzried of Colo and Jackie McNair; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; her brother, Steve Hidlebaugh of Kelley; two sisters, Valerie (Delmar) Anderson of Kelley and Vickie (Bob) Allen of Aiken, SC; a host of nieces and nephews; and her best friend for over 50 years, Joanne Presley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; her daughter, Linda Fisher; her brother, Chuck Keeney; and her sister, Sharon Keeney.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the William R. Bliss Cancer Center at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Private family services will be held.
