Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Mary "Bett" Drake
December 14, 1922 - July 26, 2015

Mary Elizabeth "Bett" Drake was born on December 14, 1922 to Clint and May (Morgan) Sullivan in Madrid, Iowa. She attended Madrid schools until her senior year of high school. She graduated from East High School, took secretarial classed at AIB, and then worked for Boss Hotels as a secretary. Bett married Arthur Drake on October 12, 1941 and an army wife for nearly 4 years during WWII. After the war, they began farming in Iowa. She was a wife and mother first, but always willing to supplement the farm income as needed through the years. She worked at Pioneer/Hy-Line, Faith Baptist Bible College, Polk City Pharmacy, Searcy's Greenhouse and Slater Child Care.

Bett trusted Christ as her personal Savior in 1955. She was a charter member of Slater Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for 25 years. She served in various other church ministries, including AWANA for over 25 years. Through the years, Bett ministered to so many friends and family it would be impossible to name all who she blessed.

Bett enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was always known for her quick wit and sense of humor.

Bett is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Ron) Stone of Sheldahl and Darla Goldberg of Slater; five grandchildren, Rhonda (Troy) Andresen of Texas, Chad (LaRae) Quick of Altoona, Jay (Michelle) Quick of Ankeny, Mark Goldberg of Slater and Ryan Goldberg of Slater; nine great-grandchildren, Philip, Jonah, Lucas and Caleb Quick, Joshua and Matthew Andresen, Kathryn, Zachary and Gabriella Quick; and her dear friend, Glenda Nehring.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur W. Drake; and their only son, Arthur Alan Drake.
