Darvin Donald Pierce, age 74, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1971, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2015 at his home. He was born on December 26, 1940 in Shenendoah, IA.
Darvin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda (nee Sisler); his sons, David (Suzie) Pierce, Judson (Susan) Pierce and Christian Pierce; his grandchildren, Katelyn, William, Morgan and Madison Pierce; his sister, Peggy Pierce Griffey and brothers, Marvin (Janice) Pierce and Stephen (Julie) Pierce and brother-in-law, William (Mary) Sisler; as well as his four nephews and five nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Helen Pierce; his brother-in-law, Harold Griffey and nephew, Robb Griffey.
Darvin graduated from Ames Iowa High School, class of 1959, earned his BA from Iowa State University in 1965 and his MBA from Northwestern University in 1976. He was commissioned in the United State Marine Corps in December of 1965, served two tours of duty in Vietnam and remained active duty until June of 1970. Darvin transferred to the USMC Reserve and served 1971-1996, retiring with the rank of Colonel. Darvin was very involved in the Marine Corps Reserve Officer’s Assoc., the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation (1979-2005) and served as the Chicago Ball Chairman from 1993-2005. He worked in the commercial and investment banking industry from 1971 until 2008 and retired from VanKampen/Morgan Stanley as an Executive Director in 2008. He previously served on the Board of Trustees for Knox Presbyterian Church, Naperville and was a longtime local election judge. Darvin was a longtime basketball and soccer coach for the Lisle Park District, and served on the Park District’s Soccer Board. Whenever he had spare time, Darvin enjoyed the game of golf.
Funeral Information
A Memorial Service celebrating Darvin’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 11:00 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church, Naperville. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will take place at Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, VA.
