Obituary from Sun-Sentinel, Broward County, Florida:

Blackburn, Val Gene, 90, passed away July 4, 2015 in Clearwater, FL. Born in Ames, IA May 24, 1925, proudly served his country in WW II as a Marine in Japan. Many of his happiest times were spent fishing with his family at Woman Lake in Ontario, Canada. He is survived by his loving son David & wife Kathy, Largo, FL; David's brother Gary Dykstra, Derby IA, niece Patricia Zimmerman, Orlando, FL and many great nieces and nephews. He was recently pre-deceased by his long time companion Thelma Boast both of whom were long time residents of Delray Beach, FL.
